About Zadar

Zadar is a city that goes back a long way. As the oldest continually inhabited city in Croatia, the area has been home to people since the Stone Age. In fact, the town that now stands here was founded all the way back in the 9th century BC. It started out as a port and fishing village and has been under the rule of several different powers over the years.

All these waves of invasion and conquest have given the city a rich history that shows in its varied architecture. It's this history, along with its gorgeous coastline and splendid weather, that continues to attract tourists today.

Some of Zadar’s most popular landmarks are the ancient ruins and structures left over from the Roman and medieval times, and many of the former churches and fortresses have been transformed into art galleries, cafes and bars. This gives these old buildings purpose while still allowing you to appreciate their historic significance.

Make sure to take your time discovering these places while you enjoy the beautiful coastal landscapes, art installations, museums, and other attractions that Zadar has to offer.
