Store your luggage around Sibenik

Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is lined with charming villages, craggy terrain, and pristine natural beauty. It’s also dotted with buzzy beach towns and resorts where travelers seek luxurious Adriatic adventures. While places like Dubrovnik get most of the headlines, the picturesque city of Šibenik is one of Croatia’s true gems.

Šibenik is steeped in history, with well-preserved medieval architecture, including the UNESCO-listed St. James Cathedral. The streets and squares are cobblestone and lined with cafes, shops, wine bars, and restaurants. There is also a bustling harbor where you can enjoy the energy of Šibenik’s waterfront and learn about the city’s maritime history.

If you’re more of a beach person, there are plenty of stellar beaches, resorts, and luxurious Sibenik hotels to spend your time soaking up the sun and splashing around the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.

Luggage storage in Sibenik

If you’re traveling into Šibenik from transportation hubs like Zadar or Split, you’ll likely be traveling into the city's main bus station. If you have some time between check-in at the hotel and are stuck with your bags, that does not mean you need to sit around. While the luggage storage service is limited at the main bus station building, you’re not short of options for where to leave luggage. Bounce is the best way to store luggage in Šibenik. It offers multiple convenient locations throughout the city, it’s easy to book online, there’s 24/7 customer service, and plenty of other reasons to go with the most reliable service on the market.

Top things to do in Sibenik

While your main focus might be on the beach, Šibenik has a little bit of everything. There are stellar museums, plenty of historical landmarks, and a ton of amazing restaurants and bars to choose from. If you’re into the outdoors, check out Krka National Park and Lake Visovačko just north of Šibenik. If you want to stick around the city, here are the best things to do:

Museums in Sibenik

  • Šibenik City Museum: Housed in a historic building in the heart of the old town, the City Museum explores the history of Šibenik. It features ancient artifacts, weapons, and tools. It also has exhibits depicting traditional Croatian clothing and art, and the distinctive Dalmatian regional culture. It’s right in the middle of the city, so it’s worth stopping in to poke around for a bit.
  • St. Nicholas Fortress Visitor Center: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is massively important to the history of Šibenik, and the exhibits at its visitor center detail the history of this impressive fortification and how it defended the city. You’ll find artifacts, weapons, interactive displays, and historical accounts that offer a comprehensive depiction of the fortress's strategic importance and architectural design. The imposing structure will doubtless capture the imaginations of youngsters.
  • St. James Cathedral (Cathedral of St. James): "Civitas Sacra" is the Latin term used to refer to Šibenik in Croatia. It translates to "Sacred City,” which highlights the historical and massive cultural significance of Šibenik’s religious heritage, particularly the impressive St. James Cathedral located in Old Town. This well-preserved medieval church is a UNESCO-listed site, and an architectural masterpiece worth visiting, even if it’s just to appreciate the exquisite exterior. Unfortunately, there isn't a luggage room or any left luggage facilities on site, so arranging a place to store your bags is recommended.

Shopping in Sibenik

  • Old Town boutiques: The narrow streets of the old town are dotted with charming little boutiques and craft shops that offer a variety of locally-made jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and artwork. It's the best place to grab one-of-a-kind souvenirs that reflect Šibenik's local culture. At the very least, it’s a fun way to explore the city!
  • Tržnica Central Market: Šibenik’s main market is the best place to immerse yourself in the daily life of locals. The Central Market (simply known as Tržnica) is a hub for fresh produce, local cheeses, olive oils, and other culinary offerings from local producers. It's also a great place to pick up ingredients for a picnic or a taste of local street food. In any case, it’s a feast for the senses just walking through the market.
  • Flea markets and street vendors: Depending on the time of year, Šibenik’s main square will host flea markets where street vendors and local artisans sell antiques, vintage items, and second-hand goods. It’s certainly a hit-or-miss shopping proposition, but there’s always a chance to uncover a few hidden treasures, and it’s free to browse.

If you’re going to shop for a few hours, you won’t want to be dragging your luggage around. None of these shopping destinations have a left luggage service or lockers, so you’ll want to look into storing your bags with Bounce to lighten the load.

Restaurants in Sibenik

Šibenik has a rock-solid restaurant scene that transcends standard beach-town offerings. You’ll find everything from Mediterranean flavors to contemporary Italian. Obviously, seafood is very popular, and for good reason. There are many superb restaurants in Šibenik, but here are a few favorites:

  • Pelegrini: This quaint little bistro has earned Michelin recognition with its innovative take on traditional Dalmatian cuisine. Everything is sourced locally, which is a good sign for fans of seafood. The atmosphere is elegant but not pretentious, and the restaurant is set in a historic building in Old Town. It’s ideal for romantic evenings and special occasions, but the prices are surprisingly reasonable.
  • Barun: With incredible views of the Sea, Barun offers a luxurious setting that compliments its Mediterranean menu perfectly. Expect grilled meats, superb risottos, and freshly-caught seafood. While all of these flavors may seem familiar, the setting certainly makes a lasting impression.
  • Tinel: A Konoba is a traditional Croatian wine cellar that can be used as a tasting room. In recent years, these have been adopted as makeshift restaurants, and they’re easily the coolest part of the Croatian dining scene. Tinel has all the details down: rugged stone walls, dim lighting, and exceptional Dalmatian cuisine paired with underrated wine from throughout the Balkans. Slow-cooked lamb and octopus salad are not to miss.

Conclusion

With stunning Adriatic beauty, rich history, and amazing cuisine, Croatia is finally getting its due as a premier European travel destination. Šibenik is starting to become an amazing place for both a luxurious and adventurous vacation. Split, Dubrovnik, and Zadar are other superb destinations for a variety of sun, beaches, nightlife, and culture, so check out our guides if you’re traveling to these vibrant cities. The Zadar bus station guide is particularly illuminating.
