About Central Park

Central Park is an urban park in the Manhattan area of New York City. It's located between the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side and is one of the largest parks in NYC at 843 acres. It's also one of the most visited parks in the United States, with more than 42 million visitors per year. The park first opened in 1858, but it was not completed until 1876. It has been renovated and restored several times over the years.

There are three forested areas, Hallett Nature Sanctuary, the Ramble, and North Woods. The park also has eight bodies of water, including the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, Harlem Meer, Conservatory Water, The Lake, Turtle Pond, and The Loch. In addition, there are 29 sculptures, eight restaurants, and dozens of buildings, including nine museums.

The park is also home to the Central Park Zoo, the Hallett Nature Sanctuary, and the Central Park Carousel. Central Park was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963 and a New York City Scenic Landmark in 1974. It is such a popular place it has been a feature in 305 films, making it the most filmed public park in the world. When you visit Central Park, you'll see why.

Fun Fact: A new species was found in Central Park in 2002. It's a dwarf centipede, officially known as the Nannarrup hoffmani, or Hoffman’s Dwarf Centipede.

Luggage Storage Options Near Central Park

Given that there’s so much to see in Central Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, you won’t want bags weighing you down. Drop off your stuff with a Bounce partner near the park to make the most of your time, and be hands-free!

Luggage Storage Near Times Square

If you are in the mood for some retail therapy, want to get a bite to eat, or just want to see the iconic intersection where the New Year’s Eve ball is dropped every year, Times Square is only five minutes from Central Park. Whether you are looking for souvenirs or something special for yourself, you'll have no trouble finding it at one of the 71 shops. From Aldo Shoes on West 42nd Street to Tissot on Broadway, shop away!

Work up an appetite and head to one of the 203 eateries in Times Square. Nosh on Sushi by Bou, a big juicy cheeseburger and fries at The Counter Burger on Broadway, or dine in style at the oldest restaurant in New York, Barbetta.

Be entertained with a movie at AMC Empire Theater. Check out the aquariums at National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey, or get some selfies with some major stars at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Dragging your luggage or bags around Times Square is not a good idea. Many of the stores and attractions frown upon big bags. Fortunately, Bounce has partners all over New York, where you can leave your bags for safekeeping.

Luggage Storage Near Statue of Liberty

Everyone world-over has heard of the Statue of Liberty, but not many get to see Lady Liberty up close and personal. Only eight miles away from Central Park, you can be there in less than 20 minutes. There is a lot to do at the Statue of Liberty site with two islands, two museums, and some unbelievable views from atop Lady Liberty herself. You will first have to take the ferry to get out to the islands, but that's part of the fun.

On Liberty Island, stop in at the Information Center or head straight into the statue to see some amazing sights. The pedestal itself is about 120 feet tall, and you can get some fantastic photos from the 360-degree view at the top. If you want to visit the crown, make sure you have on your comfortable shoes – you'll need to climb 162 steps to get there! There, get even more panoramic views from about 220 feet in the air.

On Ellis Island, which was opened in 1892 as an immigration station, you can find the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration. Explore the dormitories where the immigrants slept and the registry room where they were registered into the United States. Be sure to leave your bags with Bounce because they are not allowed here. Download the Bounce app, find our closest location, and stop on your way there.

Luggage Storage Near Empire State Building

This iconic symbol is less than three miles from Central Park, and you can get there in about 20 minutes. Standing over 1,400 feet in the air, you should be able to see it from just about anywhere in the city. One of the most well-known buildings in the world, the Empire State Building has been seen in over 250 movies, with the most popular being King Kong. Who can forget the giant ape standing on top of the building swatting at helicopters like flies?

The lobby is an experience in itself with stunning architecture, chandeliers, and art deco on the ceiling murals with stars made out of 24-karat gold. But you probably are not there just to see the lobby! Head upstairs to admire the interactive exhibits and photos about the construction of the building, as well as the movies it has been featured in.

The next stop is the most popular, the main deck on the 86th floor. From there, see the most amazing views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and the rest of New York and even New Jersey. If you want a higher view, head to the 102nd floor, where you will see for miles in every direction. No bags are allowed here, so be sure to grab your camera out of your luggage before dropping it with Bounce.
