Cancún Hotel zone, Mexico

As far as destinations go, Cancún needs no introduction. This Mexican town is known around the world for its beach resorts and its vibrant nightlife. But there’s more to Cancún than just its beaches, impressive as they are. If you find yourself on a layover at Cancún Airport, it can be very tempting to explore the city.

Thanks to Cancún’s booming tourist industry, Cancún airport is the second busiest in Mexico and the third busiest in all of Latin America. Its four terminals handle more than 20 million passengers a year, so if you’re flying in the area, there’s a decent chance you’ll find yourself on a stopover here.

As busy as Cancún Airport is, however, the public transportation infrastructure is still limited. You’ll need to take ground transport into the city from the airport, whether by taxi, car service, shuttlebus, or city bus. The drive into the city will take around 30 minutes, but expect to spend longer in a bus – anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.

To make the most of your time, don’t forget to drop off your bags at a Cancún luggage storage. Knowing your bags are safely looked after will be a load off your mind as you explore this lively coastal town.
