Store your luggage around Gapan City with Bounce

Situated in the Nueva Ecija Province north of Manila, Gapan City is tucked away deep in the lush interior of Luzon. While it’s on the most populous island in the Philippines, Gapan City is anything but a metropolis. It’s surrounded by dense jungle, vast rice fields, and beautiful countryside. It offers a small-town and bucolic experience many travelers will pine for after spending time in the vast capital of Manila.

There are multiple historical landmarks dating back to the colonial area of the Philippines, most notably the Gapan Church. This is one of the most revered catholic churches in the country, and the town’s annual Taong Putik Festival celebrates the feast day of Saint John the Baptist around the parish, which brings in travelers from across the Philippines. There are also more traditional Filipino cultural offerings to enjoy along with gorgeous landscapes and outdoor adventures worth exploring outside of town.

Here’s everything you need to know about traveling to Gapan City:

Luggage storage in Gapan City

Gapan City is a small town, to the point where the “City” part of the name might be a tad generous. Make no mistake, that's absolutely part of the charm, but you'll still want to plan around not having access to all the amenities you expect in Manila. There aren't transit facilities or storage lockers to rely on to stash the bags for a few hours while you sightsee. Nearly all the attractions are outdoors or in historic buildings, so that won't be an option, either. Gapan is most likely a day trip destination. So unless you're staying in town, you really need a place to store the bags.

Easily the best option for luggage storage Gapan City has is a dedicated service like Bounce. Because we partner with small businesses in towns like Gapan, Bounce can offer our customers convenient luggage storage locations near top attractions and town centers. Even better, it's easy to find the nearest Bounce facility through the handy mobile app, and you can even book on the go. Bounce also vets each partner location to make sure our quality and security standards are met, and we also offer 24/7 customer support and BounceShield Protection. So you know your bag is safe when visiting Gapan.

Gapan City city guide

Museums in Gapan City

Gapan Church

This fascinating and beautiful Catholic church is the most important landmark in Gapan and a cornerstone of the town’s colonial architectural heritage. Known officially as the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of La Virgen Divina Pastor, it’s the seat of the Three Kings Parish that’s wifely influential in Gapan City and neighboring towns. The design is fascinating, as its “Earthquake Baroque” architecture showcases both ornate Romanesque features along with sturdy structures to withstand seismic earthquakes, which was common among the former Spanish East Indies and in Latin America.

Explore Minalungao National Park

One of the most beautiful outdoor destinations in Nueva Ecija is this national park featuring hundreds of acres of dense jungle and the Sierra Madre mountain range. You can hike through miles upon miles of trail running along the Peñaranda River and even go kayaking or rafting. There are also dramatic cliffs and limestone walls for rock climbing, although you’ll want a trusted guide to navigate this terrain. Gapan City makes for an excellent base camp for exploring the park.

Lumang Gapan (Little Vigan)

This “micro-neighborhood” just off the main plaza dates back to the colonial era and is modeled after Spanish streets like Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and Calle Crisologo. All of these cobbled streets are named for their European counterparts, and the distinctive appearance and atmosphere make it a fun place to stroll through. The ornate and (relatively) well-preserved architecture is beautiful and offers insight into what it was like for Spanish colonials in far-off places like Gapan City.

Shopping in Gapan City

Gapan City Plaza

There aren’t any shopping centers or malls in Gapan City, but you can head to the center of town near the main church, as sort of a one-stop shop. The Plaza is a great place to head to get a sense of Gapan City, and you'll find a few shops and vendors selling souvenirs and handcrafted items great for gifts.

Gapan Public Market

If you want some fresh fruit to take for a snack while sightseeing, head to this open-air market in the center of town. There are also street food vendors selling the best Filipino bites like fried plantains or deep-fried fish balls.

Tinio Street

The main stretch in Gapan City is lined with hole-in-the-wall craft shops and stores selling anything and everything. Don’t expect any boutiques for designer brands, but it’s worth popping into a few of the more curious-looking shops.

Restaurants in Gapan City

Luz Kitchenette

Easily the most popular place for locals, this no-frills (to be honest, you’re not finding “frills” anywhere in Gapan City) spot serves up traditional Filipino comfort food that’ll really stick to your bones. The favorite is chicharong bulaklak, which is literally deep-fried fat (now that's living the good life). Their steamy kare kare soup is as rich and filling as you’ll find anywhere. Everything on the menu is extremely affordable and extremely delicious. Plus, the people-watching is superb. Even better, whatever you order to eat will cost practically nothing.

Marlyn's Eatery (Masarap at Murang Kainan)

Foodies flock to out-of-the-way towns like Gapan for their regional dishes and unadulterated dining experiences, as the bare minimum level of globalization has hit towns like Gapan in the island interiors. If you want some Filipino deep-cuts like adobo, sinampalukan, kaldereta kambing, nilaga, and bulalong baka, head to this cozy spot right in town for authentic but (fairly) approachable folk dishes.

Bewiddz Diner

While you can certainly get authentic Filipino food like adobo meats and rice, Western travelers will find some diner classics a welcome (and wholly unexpected) sight. Malty milkshakes, burgers, and American breakfast food in the middle of the Philippines? It might be worth a try just to see if these dishes hold up in every corner of the globe.

Conclusion

If you're traveling throughout the Philippines, you can't always rely on finding traditional luggage storage facilities like train station lockers, so planning ahead by downloading the Bounce mobile app will go a long way and make your trip a little more convenient and a whole lot more enjoyable. With locations in just about every major travel destination in the Philippines, including Manila, Makati, and Mandaluyong City, Bounce is always your best bet!
