Store your luggage around Kaštel Štafilić with Bounce

Located in Croatia along the picturesque Dalmatian coast near the larger city of Split, Kaštel Štafilić makes for a wonderful Adriatic getaway. With miles of sandy beaches and beautiful hills in the background, it’s no surprise this town has turned into one of Croatia’s true travel gems. Being situated in a well-guarded bay and shielded by the Čiovo Island, the water conditions are absolutely magnificent for swimming and other watersports.

It’s a small town based around a series of castles built between the 14th and 16th centuries, with the Kaštel Štafilić castle being the primary landmark in the town of the same name. While there’s plenty to do, the primary appeal of Kaštel Štafilić is that it’s quiet and relaxing. While Split is only a few minutes away, most travelers find themselves in smaller hotels or in vacation rentals taking a restorative break while enjoying the comforts of the Adriatic. The climate is also ideal any time of year, with hot summer temperatures (an air-conditioned accommodation with a seasonal outdoor swimming pool is highly recommended) that accommodate beachgoers and temperate winters that make for excellent sightseeing conditions.

Here’s everything you need to know about Kaštel Štafilić:

Luggage storage in Kaštel Štafilić

Kaštel Štafilić is a common day trip destination from Split, but even travelers staying along the beach will often find themselves getting back and forth between the two places. The town is dense and can be difficult to navigate, so if you do drive to Kaštel Štafilić from Split or other parts of Croatia, private parking at your hotel or vacation rental is as advantageous as a private pool or other amenities. Sometimes a paid airport shuttle service from Split is ideal for reaching the town as well. Either way, you’ll want to plan your logistics out ahead of time, especially for luggage storage.

There aren’t a ton of readily available luggage storage options in town, as the landmarks and transit facilities won’t offer any lockers. While hotel guests benefit from being able to drop the bags off even before check-in, this might not always mesh with the flow of your travel days. If you’re looking at the options for luggage storage Kaštel Štafilić has, the best ones available are services like Bounce. With locations throughout Croatia, including convenient ones in Split and Kaštel Štafilić, Bounce makes it easy to find and book luggage storage via our mobile app. Just download it when you have free wifi!

Museums in Kaštel Štafilić

Castle Rotondo

Built in the year 1508 to defend the Dalmatian coastline against the Ottomans, the town has essentially sprung up around this castle, with the historic parts of Kaštel Štafilić essentially clustered around its walls. Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Adriatic, it's plain to see why this castle was so formidable at the height of its power. It's remarkably well preserved and has been repurposed into a museum, with a few other 16th-century buildings open to visitors, like the beautiful Renaissance house opposite the Castle, adorned with grape vines and boasting a beautifully fashioned stone crest featuring a cluster of grapes.

Check out Mastrinka - the 1,500-year-old olive tree

This tree is so beloved by local residents that they even gave it a name. Mastrinka is over 1500 years old. So old that the origins of this olive tree aren't quite clear even to local historians. It’s said to have arrived from Greece, but it's more likely that the seeds were imported from across the sea. While this may not seem impressive, you can tell just by looking at this tree that there's something special about it. The network of roots surrounding the tree covers hundred of yards, and there's a dignified air to it.

The Nehaj Fortress

The Tvrđava Nehaj fortress was built by the Croatian army on the hill overlooking Kaštel Štafilić to protect it from Ottoman incursions into the Balkans. While it might not have swayed the tides of war, it’s an imposing fixture on the town’s skyline, with tall defensive walls and a slender tower used to spot attacking forces from miles away. The fortress has been turned into a museum, and you can ogle at the fort from anywhere in town, or tour the interior to learn about its history and view the displays of Medieval weaponry used by the town’s defenders.

 Shopping in Kaštel Štafilić

City Square

You can't visit this town without stopping at the historic Central Square. It's lined with some of the oldest buildings in town, which house cafés and local shops. You won't find any luxury boutiques or designer brands, but that's sort of the point.

Mall of Split

If you need a proper shopping experience with all of the familiar international brands, head to the largest shopping center in Split. You'll find H&M, Pepe Jeans, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Mango, and Tom Tailor across its four expansive floors. While it lacks the character of the markets and alleyways of Split’s city center, it's a solid option on a rainy day.

Green Market

The open-air Green Market (known locally as the ‘Pazar’) in central Split is a solid place to shop and a wonderful place to visit to enjoy the experience of a Croatian market. It's absolutely chaotic in every sense of the word, as the famously stubborn Croatian vendors haggle with locals (many of whom are their neighbors) while interacting more courteously with the blatant international tourists. Expect the standard offerings of a farmers market.

Restaurants in Kaštel Štafilić

Konoba INTRADA

Situated only a few steps from the water, this elevated Croatian chain serves approachable but authentic dishes, including grilled lamb, seafood, skewers, freshly baked bread, and other staples. The main reason to head here is the view of the water, and the price point makes it a strong option for lunch.

Krespo Bar

This charming creperie turns out some of the best sweet treats in town, which might explain the frequent lines of both locals and tourists queuing up for these ultra-thin pancakes. You can go sweet or savory at Krespo Bar, with the Parisian ham and cheese crêpe being the most popular breakfast item, while you can also go wild, putting together fruits and sugary toppings.

Konoba Pizzeria Lanterna

While the casual Croatian food and woodfired pizzas are perfectly serviceable, the main draw for this waterside restaurant is its terrace with a stellar view of the Adriatic. The prices are very reasonable, especially given the real estate, with affordable beer and carafes of wine, making it the ideal post-swim happy hour spot. With approachable favorites like Croatian cheese, bread, and pizzas, it's a pretty great place for groups and families, as seating is plentiful and the food is highly approachable. There are still a few Eastern European classics like goulash on the menu as well.
