Store Your Luggage Around Galway With Bounce

Dublin always steals the show when Irish cities are being talked about. While it may be the capital of the Irish Republic, it's not the only city of note. Galway is over on the country's west coast and is just as cosmopolitan but still retains its true Irish character. Explore Galway and you'll come across parts dating back to medieval days that, although they're undoubtedly ancient, have a modern vibe with great boutiques, antique shops, and plenty of traditional Irish pubs where drinking anything other than a pint of dark stout is considered a sacrilege.

Galway is a city that celebrates its long ago, and not so long ago, past in some very diverse museums where the exhibits are as varied as live fish and computer consoles. You'll also be pleased to know that the restaurants in Galway have a lot more on their menus than dishes made from potatoes these days too, and if you don't mind forking out for the experience, you can even go to some that have earned their Michelin star.

The streets of this Irish city were not designed for suitcases on wheels. If you don't want to lose yours – the wheels not the suitcase that is – leave your luggage at a Bounce luggage storage service in Galway. It'll save you the expense of having to buy a new one.

Luggage Storage In Galway

They're conveniently located and easy to find so you won't need to waste time searching the back streets of the city for them.

Top Things To Do

It would be easier and quicker to make a list of the things you don't want to do in Galway than the ones you do. There are so many top things to do in Galway and so much going on every day in this city, it's mind-boggling. To help you whittle down your want-to-see and skip-it list a little, there are three of the best museums, shops, and restaurants listed below.

Museums

The Irish are renowned for being multifaceted characters and that's something that's reflected in the unusual collection of museums in Galway. Even the word diverse doesn't really sum up the museums you'll be able to visit here, so be prepared for eye-opening and brain-teasing moments.

  • Legend of the Claddagh Ring: The Claddagh ring is a world-renowned piece of jewelry with intriguing legends attached to it. You can learn the ring's story and the myths surrounding it at the Legend of the Claddagh Ring Museum. From the first ring ever produced to the films made about it, they’re fascinating tales that will keep you intrigued throughout. Then you'll get to watch a ring being made and maybe even decide to purchase one for the love of your life as a souvenir of your visit to Galway.
  • Fisheries Watchtower Museum: The Fisheries Watchtower Museum is housed in a mid-19th century built tower on the banks of the River Corrib. The museum is dedicated to preserving the history of draft net fishing in Galway Bay. Once a draft netting station for unloading catches as well as a lookout point for spotting illegal fishing activities, the tower now contains artifacts, documents, and aquariums full of examples of fish found in the river.
  • Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland: If you tend to think your mobile phone is out of date after you've had it six months, you'll consider most of the exhibitions at the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland absolute dinosaurs. At this museum, you can discover all about communications before the internet was invented and the effect technology had on transmissions and daily life.

Shopping

Galway is still a little old-fashioned in some parts where shopping is concerned and in others totally modern. In this Irish city, you'll be able to wander down shop-lined cobbled streets and alleys, browse indoor shopping centers full of top name stores, and run across undeniably quaint curiosity shops that will have you grinning from ear to ear with what you find in them.

  • The Latin Quarter: While the Latin Quarter may seem a strange name for a district in an Irish city, it's the oldest part of the city. The Latin Quarter spreads its reach from the Spanish Arch to Middle Street in a maze of alleyways and cobbled streets where, if there weren’t modern goods in the shop windows, you'd swear you'd been time-warped back in time. This is shopping with atmosphere and particularly good during the festive seasons when all the Christmas decorations and lighting are up.
  • Eyre Square Centre: The Eyre Square Centre is a huge shopping complex in Galway that can't be called anything other than totally modern. This indoor mall contains over seventy stores stocking Irish-made and international goods ranging from high fashion clothes and footwear to quality homeware. It's definitely the place to go shopping in Galway when the Irish weather isn't behaving itself.
  • My Shop... Granny Likes It: When you want an unusual souvenir or gift, My Shop... Granny Likes It is the shop you need to look in. Here there's a wonderful collection of items made by local artisans that reflect Irish culture, its people's ingenuity, and their sense of humor. There is shelf after shelf crammed with cool stuff that takes gift shopping to a whole new level.

Dining

It can be quite cold a lot of the time in the west of Ireland and so food tends to be on the rib-sticking hearty side most of the time. Traditional dishes like pies made from beef cooked in Guinness accompanied by sides of mash potatoes or the proverbial chips or creamy soups made from locally caught seafood are common. There are plenty of restaurants in Galway that offer fine dining too, so it's a case of checking what's on the menu before you take a table to make sure they're serving food that suits you and your wallet.

  • McSwiggan's: McSwiggan's is a traditional Irish restaurant that has been serving food in Galway for over thirty years. At McSwiggan's you can get an all-day lunch and a la carte six days of the week from mid-afternoon into the evening. Popular items on their menu include clam chowder served with Guinness bread, fish and chips, and rib beef pie.
  • Kai Restaurant: For a change from typical Irish food and a break from the customary dark wood furnishings which abound in Galway eateries, go to the Kai Restaurant. It's a colorful place with stone floors serving dishes like Roscommon lamb chops with a beetroot picada or monkfish with mussels which are, on the whole, made from locally sourced ingredients. Kai Restaurant doesn't have a Michelin star just yet, but is well on the way to one as they've already been given a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand award.
  • Cava Bodega: Drop in at the Cava Bodega in Galway and you won't find much Irish food on the menu but rather a selection of seventy different Spanish tapas. That's a lot of dishes to choose from, and they're all served with exceptional panache in a contemporary bar-style environment. Think smoked duck or scallop pinchos, mushrooms in cider, salt cod fish cakes, and hake pil pil.
